Desperate Mom,

Have you considered going back to the US? It seems like in your situation you would be better off in the US where there are more opportunities.

What about Americans living abroad? I live in Lima, P E R U and myself and my children are American citizens. My husband (their father) is Peruvian. He came to the USA illegal, and worked construction. When the economic crisis hit, we were left unable to pay our rent, our vehicles, etc. We escaped to Peru in hopes of getting him legal and returning within a year. We had a total of 5000 USd when we came. Here it is about 10 months later, and we have nothing. After renting an apt, purchasing the cribs and bed, and fridge, electric burner, the fees for hte childrens schools, their books and uniforms, and enduring a multitude of sicknesses, we are lefdt flat broke and it is an absolute struggle to feed our children, buy diapers, formula, etc. We are losing the battle. My children go hungry waaay to much here. In the USA, yes, I cóuld apply for Medicaid and WIC and Food Stamps if it ever came down to it-but have no roof over my head...Or live here and live poorer than a Peruvian. We live in one of hte extremely poor sectors of Lima, and quite frankly, it scares me. BUT knowing that my children have to go to bed hungry scares me even more. Is their any type of aid that you can offer to my family? Please respond to my email, Happy_Momma_of_Three@yahoo.com.

Thanks,
