I Love a Success Story – eMoms at Home

This is the beginning of a new series called I Love a Success Story.  The series will consist of posts relating success stories that are inspiring and that captures the essence of what success is all about.  The series will not be sequential.  Whenever we find a story that shows how someone persisted through difficult times and ultimately prevailed we will share the story with you.  Today we would like to share with you the story of Wendy Piersall, who runs the blog eMoms at Home.

I first ran into Wendy when I signed up for her “10 Days to a Better Blog” eCourse.  I could tell that everything she did was very professional just by going through the course and browsing her blog.  In just about one year, eMom at Home went from being a brand new blog with no audience to becoming one of the Top 7,000 sites in the USA.  In the first two months of this year the site experienced explosive growth, increasing the number of daily visitors by 150% and the number of pageviews by 300%.

As impressive as the statistics above are, the true success story of Wendy Piersall was not apparent to me until she posted the article The Biggest Blog Post of My Life where Wendy describes how she overcame significant personal life struggles.  After Wendy graduated from college she was living out of a truck in Colorado.  She had no home, no money to her name, and was only making $75 a week – barely enough to survive.  She was also 50 pounds overweight and had just broken up from an important relationship.

As crazy as this may sound, Wendy decided to spend $50 out of the $80 that she had to pay for gas and drive to Arizona where her college community was located.  She arrived in Arizona with $30, no place to stay and no job prospects.  Why did she do that?  She listened to her heart.  Call it woman’s intuition, divine calling, or whatever the case may be.  Something was telling her that this was the direction she needed to go, and as scary as it may have been, and as insane as it may have sounded at the time, Wendy had the courage to listen to her heart.  This changed her life forever. Wendy soon found a job and started a new career.

Here is what Wendy had to say about this experience:

“That experience taught me the most important life lesson I have ever learned – to listen to my heart.  I listened to my heart when I started my first business as a single mom in my parents basement.  I listened to my heart when I almost divorced my alcoholic husband, which was the catalyst to his recovery.  And I listened to my heart when I quit my job last year to start my site, even though we would have to live off of our 401K to make ends meet until it started making money.“

On that same post Wendy announced what she called “one of the biggest announcements of my career to date”.  She is starting a new blog called Inspired Business Growth with Entrepreneur.com as part of their new site for Women Entrepreneurs.

So how does it feel to become such a big success?  What advice would Wendy give to someone who is seeking success?   Here is what she has to say about this in her post Fame, Being Uncomfortable, Friendship and THE Lorelle:

“I want you to know that when you are successful, you aren’t going to suddenly sit back and feel confident 100% of the time. Sometimes, you won’t feel like you know what you are doing. Sometimes, you will wonder how you will handle it all.

So, if you’re waiting until you feel totally capable and confident before you go for your dreams, you’ll never get there. Go now, and jump off the cliff while you know you have no wings on your back.”

Wendy’s story is an inspiration to anyone that is going through difficult times.  This story is the essence of what success is all about.  Persist through tough times.  Believe in yourself.  Listen to your heart.  Never give up.

Wendy, thanks for sharing this story with us, and congratulations on your well deserved success!
