Recession Success Stories

It is easy to be carried away by all the gloom and doom in the news and all around us.  But even in the darkest hour successful people find ways to lead with courage and take advantage of opportunities that inevitably open up.

Judy Orloff, author of the book Emotional Freedom: Liberate Yourself from Negative Emotions and Transform Your Life was interviewed by the USA Today and provided much needed advice on how to stay calm and positive even when there is so much to worry about.  Orloff says that in order to effectively deal with the economic downturn one should not be swept away by fear as it triggers the fight-or-flight response resulting in the inability to think well enough to solve problems.

She also warns against “catastrophizing” and thinking that the whole world is against you and that you are powerless.  “Don’t give into it” she says.  “Instead the energy needs to go into ‘What can I do to turn this around?’”

That is why it is so important to focus your attention on things that people have done in the past in situations like this that lead to success.  In the article How to Succeed in the Recession by Building Your Own High Tech Start-Up we shared some ideas with you on how you can use an entrepreneurial spirit to navigate through these difficult times.

In this article we would like to share with you the story of three huge success stories that came out of recessionary times like the one we are living today.  Enjoy the clip below provided by Inc.com:
